Guwahati: Man Arrested With Stolen Goods In Maligaon, Police Recover Gold and Rs. 1.11 Lakh Cash

A man was arrested in Maligaon, Guwahati, on December 24 with stolen cash, gold, and a mobile phone. Police later recovered more stolen valuables based on his confession.

GUWAHATI: A man was arrested by the police in Maligaon, Guwahati, on the night of December 24 for stealing goods.

A team from Pan Bazaar police station in Guwahati arrested Jayanta Deka of Maligaon, who was found carrying stolen items near Rail Gates No. 2 and 3. The police recovered Rs. 1.11 lakh in cash, two gold coins weighing 12 grams, and a mobile phone from his possession.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to his involvement in the theft and revealed the location of stolen gold items hidden near Ushamati, close to Gate No. 3. Acting on this information, the police conducted a recovery operation at the site, leading to the recovery of four pairs of gold earrings, a gold ear top, and other stolen valuables.

Authorities have confirmed that an ongoing investigation is in progress to determine the full extent of the theft.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam arrested three notorious individuals during a raid at ISBT, falling under the jurisdiction of Garchuk Police Station in Guwahati, on the evening of December 13, 2024.

Based on reliable intelligence, the raid resulted in the seizure of several incriminating items, including:

1. A biscuit-shaped counterfeit gold item weighing 742.2 grams.

2. Cash totaling Rs. 1,31,332.

3. Three mobile phones.

Likewise, a team of the Special Task Force (STF) led by Inspector Kapil Pathak conducted a raid inside ISBT, Betkuchi, under Gorchuk PS and arrested three individuals in connection with the possession of fake gold on December 15.

The STF seized a biscuit-shaped fake gold item weighing 742.2 grams, cash amounting to Rs. 1,31,332, and three mobile phones. The apprehended individuals had been identified as Jeherul Islam (26), Rupam Das (24), and Jitendra Maurya (28).
