Guwahati: Massive fire erupts at Gorchuk dump sites

Guwahati: A major fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon at two dump sites in Gorchuk, located near a local dhaba, prompting an immediate response from the Fire and Emergency Services. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the incident.

The fire was first reported at 1:44 pm under the jurisdiction of the Lokhra Fire Station. According to officials, the blaze originated in the storage yards of M.K. Enterprises and Jeelani Enterprise. While M.K. Enterprises, owned by Hussain Ali Ahmed, dealt in glass bottles, plastic scraps, and cartons, Jeelani Enterprise, owned by Abdul Majeed, primarily stored plastic materials, highly flammable substances that contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

In response, seven fire tenders were deployed to the scene, including units from Pandu, Dispur, and Guwahati Fire & Emergency Services, along with a water bowser. The coordinated effort helped bring the fire under control by 4 pm.

Preliminary damage assessments estimate that property worth Rs 7.5 lakh was affected, with approximately Rs 5 lakh lost in the blaze. However, timely intervention by the fire services saved property worth around Rs 2.5 lakh.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this stage.
