GUWAHATI: In response to growing concerns over waterlogging in various parts of the city, Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania conducted a field visit to Ward No. 29 today, inspecting the condition of drains and roads near Dekagiri Road.

The inspection comes amid persistent rainfall that has led to severe waterlogging and overflowing drains in several low-lying areas of Guwahati. The situation has disrupted daily life and intensified calls for immediate intervention. Under the ongoing Mission Flood Free Guwahati, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has intensified efforts to address the challenges posed by urban flooding. Mayor Sarania’s visit is part of a broader strategy to assess on-ground conditions and ensure that corrective actions are implemented swiftly.

During his visit, the mayor interacted with local residents and municipal staff, emphasising the need for coordinated action to improve drainage infrastructure and enhance the city’s flood resilience.

GMC officials have assured that desilting operations, drain repairs, and emergency responses are being carried out in a phased manner across affected wards. The corporation has also urged citizens to cooperate and avoid dumping waste in drains, which contributes significantly to blockages. With the monsoon season approaching, authorities are under pressure to deliver lasting solutions to Guwahati’s recurring waterlogging crisis.
