GUWAHATI: Bhangagarh Police arrested the woman, who had mediated the selling of a newborn baby girl near GMCH on March 30, 2025. The police identified the woman as Munu Haq, who had been arrested by Dispur earlier in the abduction of a teenage girl.
Nalbari Police arrested Kulen Talukdar and brother Bhaskar Talukdar, who had bought the baby for Rs 2 lakh. The Talukdar brothers got bail in the case.
The investigators are now trying to trace the parents of the baby. The Bangagarh Police registered a case (63/2025) in this connection. The police confirmed that there was no report of any baby missing in Guwahati. The police also confirmed that the baby was sold after the discharge of the mother from the GMCH.
According to sources, the parents considered the baby girl unwanted for them, as they already have two girl children.
It was the Child Protection Committee (Shishu Suraksha Committee) that brought the incident to the notice of the Nalbari Police, as the childless couple who bought the newborn is from Nalbari.
