GUWAHATI: In a fatal incident, a minor girl tragically lost her life after a piece of stone from an under-construction building fell on her while she was asleep in Guwahati's Chatribari area.
The horrific incident occurred at around 5 pm on Monday. The victim sustained grievous injuries and was taken to the Nemcare Hospital for medical treatment.
She was later shifted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). However, efforts to save her life went in vain as she eventually succumbed to her injuries.
The minor girl has been identified as Papiya Barman whose body has been kept at the GMCH morgue for postmortem.
This tragic incident has infuriated the local residents who have levelled serious allegations against the Sipani Complex, accusing them of illegally constructing the building in the area.
An FIR is yet to be registered in this case despite requests from residents to do so. A police team arrived at the scene to initiate a probe into this unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, earlier last month, a middle-aged home guard on flyover construction duty lost his life in an accident at West Jyotinagar in Guwahati's Bamunimaidam, according to an official from the Chandmari police station.
The official stated, "The incident took place around 10:40 pm at the construction site. The victim, identified as Padeshwar Kalita, was reportedly struck from behind by a heavy vehicle, according to eyewitnesses. He was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment."
