GUWAHATI: A hit-and-run accident at the Six Mile flyover in Guwahati on Tuesday night left a pedestrian critically injured. According to eyewitnesses, a car bearing registration number AS 01FJ 5386 was speeding in the wrong direction when it violently crashed into two other vehicles, causing significant damage.
The reckless driver also hit a parked scooter before ramming into a pedestrian and dragging them a considerable distance. The impact left the victim with severe leg injuries. Local residents immediately responded and rushed the injured person to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
The driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the accident. Upon inspection, liquor bottles were discovered inside the vehicle, raising suspicions that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Eyewitnesses say the accident was caused by drunk and reckless driving. The police arrived soon after and started an investigation. They have asked the public to share any information about the driver’s location.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, a tragic road accident took place in Naxalbari, West Bengal, when a vehicle carrying devotees from Mayong, Assam, to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, had crashed into a container truck. Three people had lost their lives, and ten others had been injured, including five in critical condition.
The accident had taken place on Sunday at Satbhai under the jurisdiction of the Naxalbari police station. A Bolero Pickup Van (AS01LC 2596) transporting 13 devotees from West Mayong Village Panchayat, Chandrapur, had a head-on collision with a container truck (UP21ET1665). Among the deceased, Niranjan Sarkar had died on the spot, while Amrit Biswas and Ranju Biswas had succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
