GUWAHATI: Guwahati police arrested three individuals and a receiver of stolen goods in connection with the theft of air conditioning copper pipes and systems from the Basistha Press Club office at AG Road, Krishnapur. The theft happened on the night of January 19 and was reported by press club member Bandan Gogoi.
Following the investigation, police arrested Safiqul Islam (34), Inamul Ali (19), and Minarz Ali (19), who were found in possession of burglary tools. These included open wrenches, a sly wrench, pliers, a ring wrench, a screwdriver, a hammer, and an electric cutter machine—tools believed to have been used in the theft.
Police found the stolen items at a dump in Patarkuchi. The recovered items included a broken air conditioner, Tata Voltage AC cooler frame, an Intel sound box with four small speakers, an Anida air conditioner, two rolls of blue copper wire, a manual three-wheeler rickshaw used in the theft, and Rs 5,400 in cash.
The investigation also led to the arrest of Ashma Khatun (55), accused of receiving the stolen goods, from her residence in Panjabari Bataghuli under the Satgaon Police Station jurisdiction. The suspects are set to be produced in court on January 22.
Meanwhile, earlier last week, the police arrested three individuals including two medical students on charges of theft in the Nagaon district of Assam.
According to the officer-in-charge of Nagaon Sadar Police Station, Debajit Das, the three arrested individuals had stolen seven computers from Nagaon Medical College and Hospital on Friday.
Two of the accused are students at the same college, pursuing MBBS while the other is a driver who is previously known to be involved in a car-lifting gang in Nagaon.
