Guwahati: Police Arrested Eight Thieves in City

A team from Panbazaar PS recovered two stolen Android mobile handsets from the possession of three individuals near the Railway Station parking area.

GUWAHATI: A team from Panbazaar PS recovered two stolen Android mobile handsets from the possession of three individuals near the Railway Station parking area. The apprehended persons have been identified as Nipu Nath (20), Intab Ali (20), and Sujan Das (26). Legal action has been initiated.

Acting on intelligence input, a Dispur PS team recovered a stolen Yamaha R15 bike from the parking yard of Shib Sankar Associates at Saroj Nagar near Bagheswari Temple. Police recovered a fake registration plate—AS01FS1566, chassis number check—original reg. no.: AS18J5551, stolen from Adabari in January 2024.

In a separate incident, a team from Basistha PS has apprehended three thieves during an ongoing investigation. The accused have been identified as Swapan Roy aka Bhuttu (27) of Golokganj, Dhubri; Sumit Das (22) of Natun Bazar Nodipar; and Sahjahan Ali aka Babu (29) of Mukalmua. Police recovered stolen copper wires and a red-coloured carpet. Legal action has been initiated.

In another incident, a team from Panbazar Police Station cracked a wire theft case, apprehending the culprit and recovering a large quantity of stolen goods. The incident occurred at JS Arcade, MLN Road, where wires were stolen. Acting on a report, the police launched a technical analysis, which led them to identify the thief in action. Within an hour, the culprit was traced, tracked, and apprehended. During interrogation, the thief revealed that he had already sold the stolen wires to a scrap shop. A subsequent raid at the scrap shop, located on MLN Road near Harisabha, uncovered a massive stash of stolen goods. The recovered items included iron bars, iron pipes, AC outer parts, axes, a sound system, ceiling fan parts, routers, remotes, and a bag full of iron bars and stolen medals/trophies. The police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case: Dheeraj Nath (20), alias Biki Nath, a resident of Amingaon, and Din Islam (35), the owner of the scrap shop, a resident of Hajo.
