GUWAHATI: The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), Imdad Ali, has issued an order restricting all types of processions, rallies, runs, marathons, and walkathons within Guwahati City, effective immediately. This decision aims to manage road usage efficiently and minimize traffic congestion, ensuring an uninterrupted commute for citizens.
The order cites that processions and rallies often lead to significant traffic congestion, affecting the free movement of vehicles and causing inconvenience to commuters and citizens. Moreover, these events can delay emergency services, impacting public safety.
The order is effective immediately, as of April 9, 2025. All types of processions, rallies, runs, marathons, and walkathons are restricted within Guwahati City. Violating this order will be punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Aggrieved individuals can file written objections for cancellation or modification of the order.
