Guwahati: Police Recover Stolen Goods Worth ₹12 Crore in Major Raid

In a major crackdown, Panbazar police raided three dump yard in the Birubari area and recovered stolen items worth approximately Rs 12 crore.

Guwahati: In a major crackdown, Panbazar police on Sunday raided three dump yard in the Birubari area and recovered stolen items worth approximately Rs 12 crore. The dump yard, allegedly operated by Montu Ali from Hajo, was found to be a hub for dismantling stolen vehicles and storing illegally acquired materials.

During the raid, police seized a massive cache of stolen goods, including 2,000 kg of copper wire, 7,000 kg of brass items, 1,000 kg of mixed iron materials, 2,500 kg of air conditioners and other electronic items, along with two batteries. Among the recovered items were also brass bells used in temples, utensils, and parts of stolen scooters and other vehicles.

The operation was initiated following multiple complaints, including thefts reported by the district library and several scooty theft cases. Upon investigation, it was discovered that dismantling of stolen two-wheelers was actively taking place at the site.

Montu Ali, the owner of the dump yard, is currently absconding. According to police, he was involved in sending the stolen items across other states. Further investigations are underway.
