Guwahati: The Guwahati Traffic Police has successfully towed away 114 unclaimed and unattended vehicles as part of its latest drive to deciliter the city’s roads. Launched on January 21, the initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion and free up parking spaces across the city.
According to officials, 29 of the towed vehicles have already been returned to their rightful owners after proper verification. Another 34 have been handed over to various garages, while 49 were moved to designate parking zones.
Additionally, two of the removed vehicles were identified as stolen, and legal proceedings have been initiated in these cases. The traffic police have urged citizens to report abandoned vehicles through multiple channels, including their nearest police station, the department’s official social media handles on X and Facebook, or a dedicated Watsapp number for quicker response.
Residents have largely welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a necessary step toward improving traffic flow and addressing parking shortages in Guwahati. Authorities have assured that the drive will continue to ensure a smoother and safer commuting experience.
