GUWAHATI: The Guwahati police successfully rescued a businessman from Barpeta, who was abducted while visiting the city to watch an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Barsapara Stadium. The victim, identified as Fakhruddin Bhuyan (27), was kidnapped from the Bhagadattapur area and held captive in a remote location in Meghalaya’s Umiam region.
The Dispur Police Station arrested five individuals in connection with the case, and the arrested individuals have been identified as Abul Hossain (27), Abul Nasar (31), Sahir Ahmed (22), Abu Kashem (30), and Abdul Hannan (22); all are from Besimari in Nagaon District.
According to the DCP East, “These individuals were involved in various transactions, and the kidnappers said that they were supposed to get Rs 12 lakh from Bhuyan, and for this reason he was abducted from Kahilipara. Bhuyan watched the IPL on March 26, and on Thursday evening, the group kidnapped him. We are investigating the matter further for more details.”
The police also seized a bolero vehicle (AS 02 AM 4550) in connection with the case.
