Guwahati: In a major boost to the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, the Guwahati Police have made multiple arrests and seized narcotics worth nearly Rs 21 crore in separate operations across the city.
In the first incident, the Paltan Bazar Police, in coordination with the Crime Branch, seized a massive drug consignment under the Ulubari flyover and arrested a suspected trafficker identified as Akhilesh Barma. The confiscated drugs, stored in three containers, have an estimated value of Rs 21 crore. Officials also recovered a significant amount of cash during the operation.
“This is a major success in our efforts to dismantle drug syndicates in the region,” said a senior police officer, adding that investigations are ongoing to identify links to larger trafficking networks.
In another operation, the Satgaon Police arrested two suspected drug peddlers, Rahman Ali and Rafique Khan alias Dadul, following a targeted raid based on intelligence inputs. Authorities recovered 10.60 grams of suspected heroin, two mobile phones, and multiple empty drug containers from their possession.
