Guwahati: Let alone roads in rural areas, a busy road in Ganeshguri, the commercial hub of the state’s capital area, is riddled with big potholes. This stretch of road near the Gopal Boro Government Higher Secondary School in Ganeshguri poses a threat to motorists and pedestrians alike.
The big potholes have been in existence for months now. They have become an eyesore for everyone passing through the road, but the PWD is yet to see this. And if the PWD officials have seen the potholed road, why haven’t they done anything about it?
Significantly, the stretch of road being referred to is hardly 200 to 300 metres away from the capital complex at Dispur.
When this correspondent talked about the potholes with a rickshaw-puller who regularly operates from that point, he said, “It has been around two or three months that the potholes appeared, and they are growing bigger in size from day to day. Vehicles coming from the Ganeshguri side have a hard time negotiating the huge potholes. It is even worse for two-wheel riders as well as pedestrians. I don’t understand why the government is not repairing this busy road.”
It is maintained by various quarters that the PWD is one of the better-performing departments. But the potholes in the busy Ganeshguri area tell a different story.
