GUWAHATI: Preparations are in full swing for the annual Ambubachi Mela, one of the most spiritually significant festivals in eastern India, scheduled to be held from June 22 to June 26, 2025, at the revered Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati.
According to the temple authorities, the sacred rituals will commence with Prabriti—the start of the ritual seclusion—on June 22 at 2:58 PM (Sunday). The temple will remain closed to devotees during this period, as it marks the annual menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, symbolising fertility, creation, and womanhood.
The ritual period will conclude with Nibriti on June 26 at 3:21 AM, after which the temple will reopen for darshan following the customary purification rituals. Devotees will be allowed to enter the sanctum for blessings from the early hours of June 26.
The Ambubachi Mela draws lakhs of pilgrims, sadhus, tantrics, and spiritual seekers from all over India and abroad. With its deep-rooted connection to Shakti worship and tantric traditions, the mela transforms Guwahati into a vibrant confluence of faith, mysticism, and devotion each year.
Authorities have assured that elaborate arrangements are being made for crowd management, accommodation, sanitation, and medical support. The Assam government, in coordination with temple committees and civic agencies, is expected to deploy additional forces and volunteers to ensure smooth conduct of the festival.
