The Office of the District Election Officer, Kamrup Metropolitan, has issued a show-cause notice to the Headmaster of Rupnagar Vidyapeeth M.E. School in Guwahati for allegedly permitting a political meeting to be held on school premises — a direct violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) currently in force ahead of the Assam Assembly Election 2026.

The notice was issued on Monday.

The district administration acted after reports and videos circulating on social media alleged that a political gathering was held at the school on March 30.

The meeting was reportedly organised at the behest of a BJP candidate from the Guwahati Central Legislative Assembly constituency.

Officials stated that the use of an educational institution's premises for political campaigning is strictly prohibited under Election Commission guidelines during the enforcement of the MCC.

The notice described the alleged act as gross misconduct, particularly given that the Headmaster, as a government servant, is bound by service conduct rules requiring political neutrality, integrity, and strict adherence to lawful instructions.

Allowing a political event on school grounds during the MCC period, officials said, is a serious breach of those obligations.

The Headmaster has been asked to respond within 24 hours, clarifying whether the meeting took place on the school's premises.

Authorities have warned that if no reply is received within the stipulated time, the silence will be treated as an admission of the charges — and further action may follow without any additional notice.
