Guwahati: Seminar on Literatures of Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan held at Gauhati University

GUWAHATI: The Department of English, Gauhati University, in collaboration with the Centre for South East Asian Studies (CEAS) and International Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies in India (IACLALS), organized a two-day international seminar on “Literatures of and from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan: History, Politics, and Storytelling.” The seminar brought together renowned academicians from India and other South Asian nations to deliberate on various themes related to the literatures of the region.

The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University, who delivered a thought-provoking and insightful talk on the historical, political, and spatial-cultural entanglements across the border nations of Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Nishat Zaidi, Honorary Director, Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Studies, and Former Head and Professor of English at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Prof. Zaidi’s talk explored the concept of “Landscape as Event” and rethinking literature from Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
