GUWAHATI: A CCTV footage from a shop in Guwahati’s Ganeshguri locality has shocked the public after it showed three women shoplifting several items.
The footage, recorded on February 2, captures the women, who appeared well-dressed and seemingly from well-to-do families, entering the store and browsing various products as though they were interested in buying them.
However, two of the women were later seen stealing items placed near the shop's entrance. The third woman was caught entering the store, but her actions were not visible on the CCTV outside.
The shop specializes in cookery and kitchen items. The theft was discovered when the shopkeeper reviewed the CCTV footage and immediately reported the incident to Dispur Police Station.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are actively searching for the three women involved in the theft. The police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the case.
In a similar incident, a thief was caught red-handed after attempting to flee with a stolen mobile phone from a grocery shop in Anil Nagar, Guwahati, on Saturday.
The accused, 20-year-old Kuwab Ali from Kharupetia, Mangaldoi, allegedly took a Samsung phone from the shop on Link Road. His escape was thwarted by alert locals, who detained him until the police arrived. The stolen phone was recovered, and Ali was taken into custody.
He has been charged with theft, and further investigation is underway. The residents' quick action helped prevent his escape and led to his arrest.
