Guwahati: With the sacred Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 scheduled to begin on June 22, preparations are in full swing at the Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hills in Guwahati to welcome lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad. To ensure a smooth, safe, and spiritually fulfilling celebration, the Guwahati Police, have laid out strict regulations.
Ambubachi Mela, one of the most revered tantric festivals in India, symbolizes the annual menstruation of Goddess Kamakhya. The four-day event attracts thousands of sadhus, tantriks, saints, and spiritual seekers, transforming the temple premises into a vibrant spiritual centre of meditation and devotion.
In view of the anticipated large turnout and unpredictable weather conditions, entry to Nilachal Hills will be restricted from June 22 to 25. Devotees will be allowed to enter only between 5 am and 6 pm, and no exceptions will be made beyond these hours. Additionally, only designated ferry vehicles for essential services will be permitted to operate between the foothills and the temple. Elderly individuals and infants have been strongly advised to avoid visiting the temple during this period for safety reasons.
The Pandu–Kamakhya road will remain closed to the general public and VIPs and will be used exclusively for emergency services. Authorities have also announced that no special or VIP darshan will be allowed from June 22 to 27, and all devotees must follow the standard darshan process.
Maintaining the spiritual sanctity of the event is a major focus. Given that Goddess Kamakhya is believed to prefer silence during this sacred period, loud music, processions, or any cultural performances are strictly prohibited in and around the temple premises. The staircase route to the temple will remain closed, and devotees must follow only designated paths in an orderly queue.
The temple will reopen for darshan on June 26 morning. Devotees wishing to undertake darshan on that day must assemble at the Bongshi Bagaan Ground, from where they will be guided by temple volunteers to the shrine. No footwear will be allowed beyond the Kamakhya Gate/foothills area, and devotees are urged to make necessary arrangements.
To manage the crowd and ensure security, the temple premises and surrounding areas will be brought under advanced CCTV surveillance. Assam Police, paramilitary forces, and volunteers from the Scouts & Guides and other social organizations will assist in crowd control and emergency support. Separate traffic advisories and diversions related to the festival will be announced by Guwahati Traffic Police. In case of any emergency, devotees can dial 112 for assistance.
