Guwahati: In a significant step towards ensuring access to clean and affordable drinking water, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) launched the Subsidized Water Supply Connection scheme for ration card holders. Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania inaugurated the initiative today.
Under this scheme, ration card holders are eligible for a Rs 7,000 subsidy on a 15 mm house service connection, making clean drinking water more accessible and affordable. The first application under the scheme, submitted by Kanaklata Rajbongshi, was successfully registered during the event.
The launch ceremony was attended by Guwahati Jal Board MD Pallav Gopal Jha (IAS), Secretary Panchami Choudhury (ACS), OSD Sabyasachi Kashyap (ACS), and other dignitaries.
This initiative aligns with the city's vision of equitable water supply and promises to uplift the standard of living for underprivileged households.
