Guwahati: In a major breakthrough, a team from Basistha Police Station has apprehended five individuals in two separate cases of theft and snatching, recovering stolen goods and vehicles used in the crimes.
In the first operation, two thieves, Nirmol Nath (40) of Ramkrishna Nagar and Supratik Nath (23) of Bazarghat, were apprehended. The Yamaha Ray ZR 125 scooter used for transporting stolen property was also recovered and seized.
Following sustained interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in a recent theft. Acting on their inputs, police conducted a raid at Satgaon Budhboria Bazar and arrested Bhim Singh (28), a habitual receiver of stolen goods. The raid led to the recovery of six stolen LPG gas cylinders linked to the Rukminigaon theft case.
In another swift operation, another team from Basistha Police Station cracked a snatching case reported on August 4 within just eight hours. Based on credible inputs, police nabbed two snatchers, Kamal Roy (24) and Bishal Das (19), from the Khanapara area.
The incident occurred near Laxmi Mandir around 12:15 pm, when the duo attacked a victim and fled on a numberless scooter after snatching a mobile phone. Upon arrest, the stolen Oppo mobile phone, the scooty used in the crime, and the clothes worn by the accused during the act were recovered.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Nasir Uddin (33), a habitual receiver of stolen items, from Beharbari. Police also recovered a broken Vivo phone and another Vivo mobile phone from his possession.
