Guwahati: As part of a nationwide initiative to combat substance abuse, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in collaboration with the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), organized a two-day Drug Awareness Campaign in Guwahati on August 15 and 16, 2025.
The campaign aimed at mobilising public support for building a “Drug-Free India” and sensitising citizens about the ill effects of narcotics. To reach out directly to communities, a series of street plays (Nukkad Natak) were staged at prominent locations, including Guwahati Railway Station, City Centre Mall, and Assam State Zoo.
The performances, blending humour, emotion, and relatable characters, depicted the devastating consequences of drug addiction on individuals and families while emphasizing the crucial role of teachers, youth, and vigilant citizens in resisting the menace. The central message echoed throughout the campaign: “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.” In addition, the campaign introduced citizens to the MANAS Helpline (1933), encouraging them to report drug-related incidents and seek support. Pamphlets carrying awareness messages were distributed widely, while large crowds at all three venues reflected strong public interest and appreciation for the initiative.
