Guwahati: In a major step toward improving access to clean and hygienic drinking water, the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board (GMDWSB) has launched a new initiative to provide water connections to approximately 6,624 households across several localities under the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB).

Announced on Friday, the drive invites residents from selected areas to register for House Service Connections (HSC) via the GJB portal gjb.assam.gov.in or the mobile application available on Google Play. A QR code has also been made available for direct access to the registration page.

The eligible areas include Rupnagar, Srimantapur, Birubari Hill Area, Rupnagar 4th Battalion 2nd Gate Road, Kalapahar Colony Bazar Hill Side, Lutuma 4th Battalion 2nd Gate Road, Kalapahar Main Road (East Side), Lokbondhu Nagar, Ujjal Nagar, Krishna Kanta Handique Nagar, 10th ABPN, Rajib Nagar Road, GMCH Hill Road, and TV Tower Nursing Hostel Road.

The board has also introduced a special benefit for ration card holders, who can apply for the connection at a fully subsidized rate until August 31.
