GUWAHATI: Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Assam’s premier cultural complex in Guwahati, is set to unveil an immersive Light and Sound Show on its premises in the coming months, aimed at showcasing the life and legacy of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, the revered Vaishnavite saint, poet, and social reformer of Assam.
As part of the initiative, a redeveloped amphitheatre is also nearing completion, designed to offer audiences a more engaging and modern storytelling experience. The project is expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience by blending Assam’s rich cultural heritage with cutting-edge audio-visual technology. Speaking to this reporter, an official at Kalakshetra stated, “The upcoming Light and Sound Show will bring to life the remarkable journey of Srimanta Sankardev through a dynamic and dramatic presentation. This effort is not only a tribute to his contributions but also an educational and cultural offering for younger generations.”
The Light and Sound Show is expected to be open to the public by October or November 2025, while a Musical Fountain Show, another attraction under the redevelopment plan, is slated for launch in August or September. The twin attractions are part of broader efforts to reposition Kalakshetra as a vibrant cultural and tourism hub, drawing visitors from across the country and beyond.
