GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metropolitan District Road Safety Committee reviewed road safety measures and discussed steps to improve traffic management in Guwahati at a meeting chaired by District Commissioner Swapneel Paul. The meeting, attended by officials from the district administration, traffic police, transport, public works, health and excise departments, reviewed the implementation of decisions taken at the previous meeting.
Paul directed the Road Safety Committee’s sub-committee to regularly monitor the condition of flyovers, with particular emphasis on preventing two-wheelers from skidding on the Maharaja Prithu Flyover during the monsoon. The committee also discussed the regulation and rational management of e-rickshaws to improve traffic movement across the city.
The District Commissioner further directed bars and hotels permitted to operate round the clock to continue providing mandatory pick-up and drop-off services for customers. He instructed the Excise Department and the District Transport Officer (Enforcement) to monitor compliance with the directive. The meeting stressed the need for better coordination among departments and timely implementation of measures to strengthen road safety in the state capital.
