Guwahati: In a high-voltage late-night operation, Dispur Police, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mrinal Deka, launched a major crackdown on street disorder and unlawful activities around 1:30 AM on Sunday. The operation began under the Ganeshguri flyover and extended up to the Ganesh Mandir area, targeting unruly groups of youngsters allegedly involved in public drinking, causing disturbances, and engaging in suspected immoral acts. Police rounded up several youths, both men and women, during the drive. Two-wheeler riders found without helmets were also penalised on the spot. This decisive action comes on the heels of a recent operation where 18 youths were apprehended from the same area for similar offences, signalling the police’s intensified efforts to restore order and ensure public safety during late-night hours.
