PALASBARI: A new non-governmental organisation (NGO) named Sanmilita Janakalyan Mancha, Palasbari, was formally launched at Urput on Friday under Palasbari LAC with a commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable development in the region.
The organisation aims to work across multiple sectors, including education, health, agriculture, economic empowerment, and youth welfare, while maintaining a non-political and people-centric approach.
Addressing a press conference, the NGO’s president, Monimay Kar, and general secretary, Chinmoy Kalita, stated that the NGO was formed to serve diverse communities and sections of society, including students, women (unmarried and widowed), farmers, labourers, and unemployed youth. They emphasised the NGO’s mission to provide support and create opportunities for the self-reliance and empowerment of the people of greater Palasbari. The organisation also intends to tap into the rich cultural, historical, and natural resources of Palasbari to boost tourism, thereby contributing to government revenue and addressing local unemployment.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief advisor of the NGO Himangshu Shekhar Baishya underlined that many essential developmental activities, even if outside the realm of political influence, can be effectively achieved through voluntary organisations. “This is a non-political platform, and through it, we aim to take Palashbari forward on various fronts. While today marks the beginning, the goal is to eventually expand this initiative throughout South Kamrup,” he said. Baishya also urged the people of Palasbari to support the initiative and contribute constructively to its future growth.
