With profound sorrow we bid farewell to Dr. Gautam Choudhury, my brother-in-law who was more of a brother to me than Bhindew, one whom I could ask for any help at any time of the day. Writing an obituary for a brother can be incredibly painful.

Born in Guwahati on April 20, 1967, he did his schooling from Cotton Collegiate School followed by Cotton College and completed his Ph.D. in Statistics in 1998. Till the time of his demise he held the position of Professor at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Guwahati. He had a distinguished career with more than 27 yrs of research, publishing more than 100 research articles in various national and international journals. Bhindew’s passion for teaching, generous guidance and zeal for research was something I used to look at with awe.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bhindew was a very social, down-to-earth, and ever-helpful person. His unwavering willingness to help others was highly commendable. Bhindew passed away suddenly on Feb 20, 2025, at the age of 57 years, leaving behind my Baidew Tapati, son Adhiraj, and aged mother.

Today on his Adya Shraddha, I offer my prayers. Stay happy wherever you are, Bhindew. You shall live in our hearts forever.
