GUWAHATI: The Panbazar police has arrested one Rajesh Kumar, a native of the Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh, for illegally supplying arms licences to some residents of the city in lieu of money.

According to police sources, Kumar has been working as a private security guard and pursuing people for providing arms licence issued from Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir.

While Rajesh Kumar has been arrested for not providing an arms license to a complainant after taking Rs 2,13,000, the police has found that he had already provided three arms licences to different people in the city.

The sources said that apart from Kumar's own licence (No. 636/ASP/J/2009), the three other arms licences have been seized and sent to the Director General of Police, CID, J&K, for further verification. These include licences issued to Md Jakir Hussain of Bhaskar Nagar in Chandmari (No. 28/82/ASP/J/2010), Madhab Sharma of Ambikagiri Nagar here (No. 2881/ASP/J/2010) and Raju Boro (No. 1839/ASP/J/2021).
