Guwahati: A personal dispute, not communal hatred, led to the recent incident involving a pork meat packet being thrown at a mosque in the Panjabari area in Guwahati. Police have confirmed that the act was motivated by a failed relationship, not religious animosity.
Dispur Police have arrested one Mridupawan Pathak from Barpeta for his involvement in the incident. The accused allegedly committed the act in an attempt to defame a woman with whom he was trying to have a relationship. The scooty of the accused used in the crime has been seized, and crucial leads emerged after the woman - whose name and number were found inside the packet - was interrogated.
The incident took place on Sunday, when an unknown individual riding a scooter threw a packet containing pork meat near a mosque on Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Road in Panjabari. The presence of a young woman's name and contact number inside the packet immediately raised suspicions.
CCTV footage from the area helped police track the movement of the scooty used during the act, which ultimately led to the arrest. The woman, a resident of New Guwahati, was interrogated, and her statement played a crucial role in cracking the case.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also reacted to the incident, clarifying, "The act was not related to any communal agenda. It was triggered by a personal issue involving a girl."
