GUWAHATI: The Coordinator Committee of Electricity Employees, Engineers & Pensioners of Assam will boycott work on Monday as a sequel to the protest programme carried out in New Delhi on August 2 last by the National Convention of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) in protest against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
Sources of the committee said here on Sunday that keeping in mind the convenience of the public, power supply will, however, continue during the strike.
The sources further informed that MPs and leaders of political parties had come to the NCCOEEE convention in New Delhi on August 2 and opposed the anti-people Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022, and extended their support to the employees of the power sector. Those who extended support to the power sector employees included Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh, Communist Party of India MPs E Karim and Binoy Biswas, senior labour leader Tapan Sen, Hannan Mulla of the United Kisan Morcha, AITUC, CITU, INTUC, HMS and AITUC.
The sources further said that if the Central Government goes ahead and tables the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in the Parliament, then the NCCOEEE will be compelled to resort to a more intense democratic struggle.
