GUWAHATI: Afterlife coming back to normal on Friday morning, people seem to come out in search of essential commodities. However, the price hike and scarcity of essential commodities have become a problem for them.
The price hike of vegetables and other essential commodities, including scarcity of petrol, is now interrupting the life of city dwellers. On Friday many seemed to go to distant places in search of petrol. In Silpukhuri the prices of cabbage and cauliflower have been increased up to Rs.70 to Rs. 100 per kilogram. In most of the stores and shops, stocks have already been exhausted. People were seen to stand up in the queue in front of the shops.
According to sources of Pamohi Wholesale Market, at present stock of goods has already been exhausted. At 1 am on Friday, one truckload came, and all the goods were sold in the morning itself. Four more trucks may come on December 14, but right now there’s no vegetable available in the market.
The district administration on Friday declared that it would ease restrictions on the transportation of essential commodities. The Kamrup (M) DC has reached a decision with North-East Petroleum Dealer Association to open the petrol pumps. The administration also distributed fruits and water to those stuck in the ISBT, railway stations and the GMCH.
