Scheduled Caste students’ body alleges Rs 1885-crore scam

The All Assam Scheduled Caste Students' Union (AASCSU) and other SC organizations on Friday alleged that a massive scam involving funds meant for the community has been committed by different state government departments.

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Scheduled Caste Students' Union (AASCSU) and other SC organizations on Friday alleged that a massive scam involving funds meant for the community has been committed by different state government departments.

Addressing a press conference in the city, AASCSU adviser Parmananda Das leveled allegation of a scam perpetrated in the financial years 2021-22 and 2022-23 of a total amount of Rs 1885 crore from development funds of the SC people, and holding the Social Justice and Empowerment department responsible for the same. Das elaborated on the alleged scam by quoting amounts supposed to have been siphoned off from different departments during the two financial years mentioned earlier- Rs 245 crore from the Agriculture department, Rs 9.94 crore from the Veterinary department, Rs 6.42 crore from the Fishery department, Rs 1 crore from the Handloom & Textiles department, Rs 43 crore from Health & family Welfare department, Rs 1 crore from the Industries & Commerce deptt, Rs 15 crore from the Irrigation department, Rs 13 crore from Housing & Town Planning department, Rs 875 crore from Panchayat & Rural Development department, Rs 8 crore from the Public Health & Engineering department, Rs 120 crore from PWD department, Rs 300 crore from the Education department, Rs 16 crore from the Soil Conservation department, 240 crore from the Social Justice & Empowerment department, and Rs 114 crore from the Women & Child Welfare department.

Das claimed that amounts of Rs 139 crore and Rs 1785 Cr were released during the financial years 2021-22 and 2022-23 respectively as funds meant for the SC people's development, adding them up to arrive at a total of Rs 1885 crore. He alleged that, apart from the money spent for construction of a few Naamghars and distribution of around 200 goats by the Veterinary department, it is still not clear where such a huge amount was spent.
