Guwahati: A truck reportedly rammed down and killed two people and damaged several other vehicles in a gruesome incident.

Enraged by this cruelty, the truck was set ablaze by a furious mob.

According to the initial report of the Traffic Department of Jalukbari Police Station and officials of the Jalukbari Outpost, the truck was on its way to Jalukbari from Khanapara on National Highway 37.

The truck that went out of control was going on the wrong track at great speed and subsequently struck two to three passenger vehicles at Lokhra in Guwahati. Thereafter, the unruly truck struck a scooter at Tetelia. The two-wheeler along with its rider was dragged for quite some distance.

This horrific incident led to the demise of the rider, that too on the spot and the pillion rider managed to somehow survive but was left severely injured while another passerby was reported dead.

The incident occurred on the morning of 18 January, at around 9:30 am. Firefighters were summoned to extinguish the fire and Fire department trucks from Pandu immediately rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control.

The driver and the handyman of the truck are absconding and a case has been filed at the Gorchuk Police Station. Although the two remain untraceable, officials of the traffic police have assured that the perpetrators will be hunted down and brought to justice at the earliest.

It is to be noted that the site of the incident was close to the Boragaon traffic police outpost. The locals have alleged that the police officials reportedly failed to stop the truck despite the fact that the truck was travelling at a tremendous speed and was also on the wrong side.
