Temple Theft: Thief In Assam Police T-shirt!

GUWAHATI: Many eyebrows have been raised in Guwahati when the CCTV footage of a thief who was looting a Kali Mandir in Guwahati was seen to have worn an Assam Police T-shirt.

The Kali Mandir at Bhangagarh in Guwahati was looted on Saturday night. The donation box of the temple was broken and the money looted. The Kali Mandir is located near the Bhangagarh flyover, within one km from Bhangagarh police station. So far, this particular Kali Mandir has been attempted by thieves for the four times this year. In two previous attempts this year, the thieves failed to loot.

A case (392/19 u/s 379) has been registered in this connection at Bhangagarh police station. Fancy Bazar police, on the other hand, caught the thief on suspicion from the riverside this morning. He has been identified as Ratnakanta Doley alias Sriram alias Benga (18). He hails from Lakhimpur and stays at Six Mile. He is a dumb, and was arrested in many theft cases earlier. He has been handed over to Bhangagarh police station. Rs 1,550 in notes and coins amounting to Rs 351 were recovered from his possession.
