GUWAHATI: The inauguration ceremony of a ten-day special skill development programme for upskilling taxi drivers at Guwahati International Airport under the Assam Skill Development Mission, Government of Assam, was commemorated at the Centre for Aviation, Tourism, and Hospitality Studies at Guwahati International Airport on Sunday.

The day commenced with a lighting of the lamp ceremony, followed by the ribbon cutting of the programme by Chief Airport Officer Utpal Baruah and by Ankur Jain (IPS), Managing Director, Assam Skill Development Mission, Government of Assam. Many important dignitaries of the concerned department were present in the opening ceremony to boost the energy and pace of learning and upskilling the trainees to create a powerful, skilled workforce for the region in the coming years. Ankur Jain gave the inaugural speech, followed by another insightful speech by the Chief Airport Officer, Utpal Baruah. Nilotpal Kalita, District Project Manager, Assam Skill Development Mission; Dibyajyoti Borah, President, Ideal Abhijan NGO, Jorhat; and many senior officials were present in the programme.

The ceremony saw the attendance of more than 100 taxi drivers from the region, along with other staff from the LGBI Airport, Guwahati. These stated projects are on a pilot basis for now, and ASDM, the Government of Assam, has taken a mandate to upskill all the stakeholders of the Airport region within the next one year for their uplift and also to create a recognised and status-oriented skilled workforce in the state, stated a press release.
