The battle of Saraighat depicted at Amingaon in Kamrup district

GUWAHATI: As part of the celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of legendary Ahom General Lachit Barphukan, artists depicted the Battle of Saraighat in the middle of the Brahmaputra at Amingaon in the Kamrup district today.

The live show depicted the skilled naval Ahom brigade led by the Lachit Barphukan. Big and small boats with Ahom soldiers aboard gave a live display of the historic battle displaying how the Lachit Barphukan-led Ahoms defeated the marauding Mughals and chased them away.

Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli felicitated the person playing the role of Lachit Barphukan with a gamosa.

Kamrup SP Hitesh Chandra Rai, Rangiya SDO Rahul Javir Suresh, top officials of the Kamrup districts and the general public were present at the show.

In the morning, the district administration took out a cultural procession. Four hundred students dressed like Lachit Barphukan accompanied the procession giving it the right look.

Meanwhile, the Kamrup Deputy Commissioner laid the foundation stone for erecting a statue of Lachit Barphukan at the DC office. Sculptor Diganta Madhab Goswami will make the statue. In the afternoon a cultural programme took place where fireworks from Barpeta were displayed.

On the essay writing on Lachit Barphukan, the Kamrup DC upload a poem written by her in her mother tongue Telegu.
