Guwahati: A live-in relationship took a tragic turn in the Kahilipara area on Thursday, leaving one dead and the other battling for life, sending shockwaves through the Kalyani Nagar locality.
The deceased has been identified as Navjyoti Talukdar, who allegedly died by suicide. His partner was found in a critical condition and rushed to a private hospital after reportedly attempting to take her own life. The couple had been living together in a rented house for about a year.
According to police sources, tension had been brewing between the two for quite some time, with frequent arguments and misunderstandings straining their relationship. On the morning of the incident, Navjyoti allegedly locked the girl in one of the rooms before taking the extreme step. Moments later, the girl managed to inform the police and then attempted to end her life by slitting her wrist.
Police reached the scene promptly and recovered Navjyoti’s body, which has been sent for post-mortem examination. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
The girl, who is employed with a satellite news channel in the city, reportedly admitted to police at the hospital that the relationship had been under strain due to regular fights and emotional distress.
