AYODHYA: Abdul Rehman, a 19-year-old from Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested for allegedly planning to detonate two hand grenades at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The arrest took place on Sunday night by a joint team of police from Gujarat and Haryana.
According to reports, Rehman, who ran a meat shop and drove an auto rickshaw, is believed to have been trained by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). His arrest followed a police complaint filed by the Haryana Special Task Force (STF). He was subsequently presented before a local court, where he was remanded to police custody for ten days.
Authorities have indicated that the ISI had been plotting this attack for some time. Rehman reportedly conducted multiple reconnaissance missions around the Ram Temple, which was consecrated in January last year. Information gathered during these missions was allegedly shared with the ISI.
According to sources, Rehman intended to meet his handler in Faridabad to collect the grenades before traveling to Ayodhya by train. However, acting on intelligence from central security agencies, the Haryana STF and Gujarat's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) quickly apprehended him.
During the operation, two hand grenades were seized from an abandoned house near Pali village, approximately 12 km from Faridabad. Both grenades have since been defused. Following the recovery, Rehman was taken to Gujarat for further interrogation.
