BENGALURU: A Bengaluru school has drawn criticism for allegedly locking pupils who failed to pay their fees. Students at Orchid International School allegedly endured this type of misconduct, which has apparently caused them a great deal of emotional and mental suffering.
The action has been condemned by angry parents who claim it may have a detrimental effect on their children's academic achievement.
Students who register formal complaints have reportedly been told by the school that there will be serious repercussions. This is not a unique incident, according to several sources.
Some of the city's private schools are said to have locked pupils in dark chambers as a form of discipline for tardiness, misbehaviour, or unpaid fees. According to some reports, students who failed to pay fees were sometimes locked in a dark library during class hours.
The Education Department and the Child Safety & Protection Department have received formal complaints as a result of the accusations made against several schools.
Parents have been calling for prompt action, which includes blacklisting and cancelling the licenses of these institutions. They want responsibility and argue that such harsh measures violate their children's rights.
The Education Department has issued a warning to private schools about the negative effects that harassing pupils for unpaid tuition can have on their academic performance and mental health. In order to ensure thorough investigations, the department has encouraged parents to report similar events to their local police stations. They added that the schools' permits would be cancelled and they would be placed on a blacklist if the accusations were proved to be accurate.
