MADHUBANI: Madhubani Railway Station erupted into chaos on February 10, 2025, when unruly travelers pounced upon the Swatantrata Senani Express (Train No. 12561) and broke 73 glass windows of the AC coaches badly.
This act of destruction not only halted railway services but also triggered panic among the passengers and created serious questions about security at railway stations.
In response to the incident, the East Central Railway's Railway Protection Force (RPF) immediately acted by registering a case under Sections 145(b), 146, 153, and 174(a) of the Railways Act (Crime No. 168/2025). A special investigation team was formed to find and arrest the perpetrators of the vandalism.
Through rigorous questioning and technical evidence, the RPF was successful in identifying and arresting a juvenile perpetrator of the crime. The suspect has confessed to involvement and expressed remorse for his actions. Nevertheless, investigations are ongoing to follow up and arrest other perpetrators of similar acts of vandalism.
The RPF has reconfirmed its commitment to protecting railway property, a national treasure. Any attempt to vandalize railway facilities is illegal and will be dealt with forcefully under the law.
To prevent such incidents from happening again in the future, security has been enhanced in collaboration with the State Government and Government Railway Police (GRP) to ensure the safety of passengers and railway facilities from future damage.
Though the RPF is responsible for maintaining security and order within the railways' premises, it also appeals to the public to refrain from engaging in illegal activities that endanger public safety.
Vandalism, besides resulting in losses to the railways, also endangers the safety of passengers directly. The culprits will be dealt with firmly for destroying railway properties so that their travels are made safer.
