HYDERABAD: In a horrific attempt to destroy all evidence, a retired Army jawan has admitted to killing his wife and dismembering her body.
The 45-year-old accused, Gurumurthy, was employed as a security guard at a defence establishment. On January 15, after a furious dispute, he allegedly killed Puttavenkata Madhavi, his 35-year-old wife.
Gurumurthy is accused of dismembering her body in their bathroom after the murder, boiling the remains in a pressure cooker and grinding the bones with a pestle.
He reportedly disposed of the remains in a nearby lake over the course of three days. The case was registered after Madhavi's parents reported her to be missing to the Meerpet police station on January 18 after becoming alarmed by her abrupt disappearance.
Gurumurthy first asserted that Madhavi left the house following a dispute over going to visit a relative.
But he subsequently confessed to the murder and described the terrible measures he took to cover up the crime when he was being questioned by the police.
The lake at Meerpet has been searched by authorities, including clue teams and a dog squad, but no concrete evidence has been found as of yet.
In a similar case in Assam, 35-year-old Rameej Ali from Khaorabil village in Kailasahar subdivision, had been sentenced to life imprisonment with a Rs. 50,000 fine for the daylight murder of his wife.
Additionally, he received a three-year sentence for domestic violence, also with a Rs. 50,000 fine. Both sentences will run concurrently, unless the High Court commutes them on appeal.
