Guwahati: Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman will be released by Pakistan today after the Imran Khan government announced his release on Thursday.

IAF Wing Commander will be received at the Wagah border as per reports but it is not clear whether the pilot will be handed over to the International Committee of Red Cross or to the Indian Authorities by Pakistan.

On Thursday India had rejected Imran Khan's call for a dialogue saying there would be no deal on the Wing Commander Varthaman's release.

The Indian Government demanded immediate and safe return of the Wing Commander amid soaring tension between India and Pakistan and said that it would be well-advised to ensure that no harm comes to him.

As per reports, Wing Commander Varthaman will be received at the Wagah border by IAF team.

The parents of Abhinandan has arrived Delhi at 1.30 am from Chennai and then took a flight to Amritsar to receive their son.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has offered to receive Wing Commander at the Attari border. The Congress leader has tweeted his request to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The tweet reads as, "Dear Modi ji, I am touring the border areas of Punjab and I am presently in Amritsar. Came to know that the Pakistan Government has decided to release Wing Commander Varthaman from Wagah. It will be a honour for me to go and receive him as he and his father are alumnus of the NDA as I am."

According to sources, the pilot is likely to be brought by Pakistani authorities from Rawalpindi to Lahore and handed over first to the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) under rules of the Geneva Convention before being brought to the JCP at around 3 pm to return home.

The Wing Commander will be briefed by defence and security officials after his return to his motherland.
