India And Bangladesh Observe 53rd Vijay Diwas, Honoring Bravery And Sacrifices Of 1971 War

India and Bangladesh marked the 53rd Vijay Diwas, honoring the bravery and sacrifices of soldiers in the 1971 war and strengthening bilateral ties.

AGARTALA: The Indian Army and Bangladesh Army observed Vijay Diwas, on Monday, commemorating the 53rd anniversary of Bangladesh's liberation from Pakistani rule in 1971.

This significant occasion honors the courage and determination of both the Bangladeshi people and the Indian Armed Forces, who united in their fight for freedom and independence.

The Bangladesh Liberation War was a pivotal moment in modern history, resulting in the creation of Bangladesh as a sovereign Nation. The war culminated in the surrender of more than 93,000 Pakistani Forces on 16th Dec 1971, an unparalleled feat in modern wars.

The release stated, "As we mark this milestone, we honor the sacrifices of the brave hearts who gave their lives for the nation. To commemorate this significant victory, senior army officers from the Indian Army and Bangladesh Army exchanged sweets at Akhaura along the Indo-Bangladesh Border, symbolizing their lasting friendship and cooperation. This tradition will serve as a hallmark in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations."

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the soldiers who played a pivotal role in India's victory in the 1971 war against Pakistan, on the occasion of Vijay Diwas.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi expressed that the selfless dedication and unwavering resolve of the soldiers not only safeguarded our nation but also brought glory to India during the war.

“Today, on Vijay Diwas, we honour the courage and sacrifices of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless dedication and unwavering resolve safeguarded our nation and brought glory to us. This day is a tribute to their extraordinary valour and unshakeable spirit. Their sacrifices will forever inspire generations and remain deeply embedded in our nation’s history,” reads PM Modi’s post.
