PRAYAGRAJ: Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, experienced allergies on her second day at the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Despite her allergies, she intends to take part in the ritual of dipping in the Sacred Triveni Sangam.
Speaking to the media, spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri shared that she is currently resting at his 'shivir' due to the allergies. Giri mentioned that she has never been to such a crowded place but is quite simple in nature. She had stayed with the group during the pooja, and he noted that in their tradition, those who have never experienced it are eager to join.
Ms. Jobs arrived in Prayagraj on Monday for the Maha Kumbh, a rare celestial event that occurs once every 144 years. She will stay at the Niranjini Akhara camp in the Kumbh tent city until January 15 before heading back to the US to attend President-elect Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony on January 20.
On Tuesday, During the first Amrit Snan, an estimated 3-4 crore people took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers converge.
The sadhus from the 13 Akhadas of Sanatan Dharma performed their sacred dips at the Triveni Sangam. These Akhadas are categorized into three groups: Sanyasi (Shaivite), Bairagi (Vaishnav), and Udaseen. The Shaivite Akhadas include Shree Panch Dashnam Juna Akhada, Shree Panchayati Akhada Niranjani, Shree Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhada, Shree Panchayati Akhada Mahanirvani, Shree Shambhu Panchagni Akhada, Shree Panchdashnam Aavahan Akhada, and Taponidhi Shri Anand Akhada Panchayti.
The Maha Kumbh is among the largest and most important religious gatherings globally, occurring once every 12 years at one of four locations in India. The Maha Kumbh 2025, a Poorna Kumbh, will last until February 26. Important 'snan' dates are January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya - Second Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami - Third Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
