MUMBAI: A diamond merchant in Mumbai has fallen victim to a fraud involving diamonds worth Rs. 1.92 crore, allegedly orchestrated by a father-son duo who are currently absconding.

The incident took place in the Bandra Kurla Complex area, and the police have registered a case of fraud against the accused, Kishore and Maulik Kishore Abhangi and the cops have launched a manhunt to apprehend them.

The fraud began on September when Priyank Shah, the victim, was introduced to Kishore Abhangi, presented as the director of Parth Diamonds, by a diamond broker, Kishore Limbasia. A few days later, Limbasia brought both the father and son to Shah’s office, where they claimed to have a high-profile client interested in premium-quality diamonds.

Trusting his five-year relationship with Limbasia, Shah handed over 459 carats of diamonds, valued at Rs. 1.92 crore, to the Abhangis, who promised to finalize the deal within a week.

However, despite repeated follow-ups, the accused delayed the transaction, claiming they were still showing the diamonds to buyers. When Shah lost contact with them, he approached Limbasia, who revealed that he had not seen the duo in days. Shah then visited the accused’s office in Bandra Kurla Complex, only to find it locked and deserted.

Realizing he had been duped, Shah filed a complaint with the police. Preliminary investigations indicate that the Abhangis fled with the diamonds, and a special operation is underway to trace and arrest them.
