Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to install the grand statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar as the huge statue of this great personality has broken in clashes that broke out on Tuesday evening during the roadshow of BJP President Amit Shah.

A violence broke out between the BJP and Trinamool Congress members in Kolkata during a roadshow of Amit Shah and it has been alleged that the Trinamool Congress member who are also the students of Vidyasagar College pelted stones in the convoy of Amit Shah after which the clashes broke out and the statue of Vidyasagar has been vandalized which was inside the college campus.

Addressing a rally at Mau in Uttar Pradesh, Narendra Modi said, “We saw hooliganism by TMC workers again during Bhai Amit Shah’s roadshow in Kolkata, they vandalized 19th-century reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s statue. Such people should face strong action. We are committed to Vidyasagar’s vision and will install his grand statue made of panchdhatyu (five metals) at the same spot.”

Meanwhile, a senior Trinamool leader, Derek O’Brien promptly responded with a rage-filled tweet.

The BJP President further alleged that Mamata Banerjee had her own party men smash the bust to pin the blame on the BJP ahead of the last round of voting in Bengal. Kolkata has two of the nine constituencies that will vote on Sunday in 42-seat in West Bengal.

The Election Commission on Wednesday curtailed campaigning in Bengal over the violence and said that it was deeply anguished at the vandalism done to the statue of an icon who besides his many other achievements as a philosopher, academic educator, writer and philanthropist worked all his life in the cause of widow remarriage which was unthought and unheard of in the ultra-conservative society in those days.

In the video clips released by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s party showed that attackers breaking through the gates of the college but it is not clearly established from which side the attackers belonged to.
