NEW DELHI: The Defence Ministry has announced 2025 as the 'Year of Reforms' by outlining a transformative agenda for the modernization of the Indian Armed Forces. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made the announcement following a high-level meeting with top officials on New Year's Eve.

The goal of the program is to improve the armed forces' capabilities in new-age warfare with the infusion of latest technologies, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and machine learning. One of the key focus areas for 2025 would be joint training and operational synergy between the Army, Navy, and Air Force to make inter-service coordination seamless.

Another area that will be pursued is the harmonization of procedures in the process of acquiring defence equipment and technology, making acquisition more efficient and transparent. There is also strengthening of public-private partnerships that have the potential of knowledge transfer and innovation through collaborative efforts between defence and civil industry.

In pursuit of the goal to boost defence exports, the ministry will work on enhancing quality through research and development and partnerships with global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Resource sharing and expertise through strategic alliances will be the objective of such partnerships.

The reforms go beyond operational issues and focus on the betterment of welfare measures for Army veterans and using their experience to fortify national security.

Speaking on the initiative, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed optimism on the reforms by stating that these reforms would add to the country's security and sovereignty. "These reforms are necessary to counter the challenges of the 21st century," he said.
