Jalaun medical college under scrutiny after patient narrowly escapes mistaken surgery
Jalaun, UP: In a bizarre and alarming incident at Jalaun’s Government Medical College, a routine hospital visit turned into a near-surgical nightmare for Brijesh Chaudhary, a resident of Madhaugarh. What began as a check-up for eye swelling almost ended in an unintended operation—all because of a serious case of mistaken identity.
Chaudhary was admitted on Monday with assurances from doctors that he would be discharged the following day. However, on Tuesday morning, he found himself prepped for surgery—dressed in OT scrubs, injected, and placed under operating lights—without knowing why.
“I asked them, ‘What operation are you doing?’” said Brijesh. The staff responded calmly, “It’s your operation.” That was the final straw.
Hospital Shrugs Off Blunder
His family quickly intervened, demanding answers. The explanation? A casual admission from the medical team that the surgery was meant for someone else. A nurse was reportedly blamed for the confusion.
The hospital’s spokesperson, Dr Shailendra Singh, issued a brief statement: “We have just received the information. The matter is being looked into.”
While Brijesh escaped unharmed—save for the fright—the incident raises serious concerns about procedural negligence. There is no confirmation yet on whether disciplinary action will be taken or if protocols will be tightened to prevent such a mishap in future.
For now, Brijesh remains a man with swollen eyes and swift feet—lucky to have dodged not just a surgery, but a serious lapse in medical safety.
