GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given a clear message on Monday via social networking site X (formerly Twitter) that stressed how "Operation Sindoor has merely been PAUSED."

The posting was directly pointing towards the warnings to India's enemies, notifying them that the campaign launched by the government of India against terror is far from complete.

Sarma’s comments followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s powerful address to the nation, where the PM reaffirmed India’s uncompromising stance on terrorism and denounced Pakistan for providing a haven to terrorist elements. Aligning himself with the central leadership, CM Sarma asserted, “The message is clear to the enemy!” He went further, stating that Prime Minister Modi had “laid out the terms of reference for Pakistan’s very EXISTENCE – embrace annihilation OR abandon terrorism.”

Appreciating the Prime Minister's decisiveness and clarity, Sarma said, "We appreciate Adarniya Modi Ji for unifying the country by giving an exceptional message, showing decisive leadership and maintaining the sentiments of EVERY Indian." His statement indicates a developing feeling among the ruling BJP leadership that India needs to dictate the terms of engagement on terrorism and national security.

The term "Operation Sindoor" has increasingly become symbolic, signifying India's aggressive strategic stance against cross-border terrorism. Political analysts and netizens alike are reading it as a message that India's counterterror operations have reached a new level—one characterized by preemptive action and clear intent.

Sarma's remarks are at a politically sensitive time, with national security rising as a top theme in the nation's conversation. His categorical backing of the government's strategy is reflective of the BJP's hardline terror policy, which has been on the ascendency in recent weeks.

Only a day before, on May 12, Sarma had complimented the Indian Armed Forces on their professionalism and honesty in military briefings about Operation Sindoor. He appreciated the Directorate General of Military Operations (DGMO) for their frankness and transparency, saying, "The briefings by our DGMOs are intense, unapologetically professional, and brutally honest."

He stressed the army's determination and battlefield success and asserted that Indian armed forces have attacked "deep inside" the territory of Pakistan with "resolution and precision." These operations have proven the ever-increasing operational capacity and non-compromisable determination of India's military toward the defense of the nation, maintains Sarma.

With CM Sarma and other leaders reiterating the government's tough stand, Operation Sindoor looks less like a traditional military campaign—it is taking shape as a key component of India's changing security strategy.
